St Bede's Through to Final
05 February 2008
St Bede's U19 Boys Hockey team are celebrating winning through to the finals of the Sussex Cup after beating Eastbourne College 1-0 on Tuesday. They will meet either Hurstpierpoint or Beacon Community School in the final next week.
The St Bede's boys were playing their first needle match under new coach Steve Paxton who arrived to head up hockey at the School at the beginning of term.
This was the first time the two schools have played each other for at least five years. The match saw St Bede's play the ball with confidence and Eastbourne's counter attacks could not break through the St Bede's defence. Josh Barraclough scored the only goal with an awesome reverse stick move that left the Eastbourne keeper standing.
Afterwards, a jubilant Paxton who coached the South African Ladies team for three years and who has also taken on the role of senior coach for Eastbourne Hockey Club said: ‘The St Bede's boys played hard, they played well and they won'!
