Scary guy lays down the challenge
07 February 2008
Students at St Bede’s Senior School are meeting the challenge of saying nothing negative about a fellow human being for at least two weeks, after a visit from The Scary Guy.
The Scary Guy – in reality a 53-year-old American with wild white hair and white handlebar moustache and who just happens to be tattooed from head to toe and have quite a lot of facial piercing – bills himself as: ‘The Most Powerful Agent For Change on the Planet Today’!
‘His sole mission’, he says: ‘Is the Total Elimination of Hate, Violence and Prejudice Worldwide’, and to this end Scary travels the world promoting peace and teaching of Love and Acceptance of all people.
He spoke to the entire 850-strong student body at St Bede’s as well as all the staff, for an hour and a half, promoting his message and encouraging the students to put prejudice and intolerance aside and instead show love and acceptance of each other. Sixteen hugs a day, he said, cheers everyone up and he laid down the two week challenge to the students.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the lecture and most, if not all, seem very keen to meet the challenge!
