Barbados Netball Tour 2008
05 March 2008
The Junior squad of St Bede’s School netball have returned home after competing in a double headed, four fixture tour to Barbados. The young team, fresh from winning matches against local schools throughout their season, were fully prepared for both the physical and psychological challenges that lay ahead of them. The strong squad, of two teams including Jade Barraclough, Pippa Pocock and Mercedes Goldman, who are currently in training with the Sussex development squad, competed well against local Lodge School rivalries. The two teams found it difficult to acclimatize to the intense heat, however all competed with full commitment and purpose. First results of the tour ended in one win one lose.
Over the course of the tour the juniors adapted their game effectively to overcome both the physicality and toughness of the Barbadian’s style of play. Defensively, outstanding performances from Jessica Parker, who stood tall and strong in defence, along with the fierce attack formation of mid court players, Jenny Robson and Jessica Barrett., made it very hard for the Barbadian teams to break down.
Amanda Shuttleworth displayed exceptional play in both attack and defensive, proving just what an advanced and versatile player she really is. Lauren Allymohammed and Bella King developed a fierce and effective partnership in the shooting circle and with the precise and accurate feeds from both wings made the attacking formation formidable.
Overall match results ended in wins against Lodge and Banks Spurs Club.
