Oriental evening, it's not just the food...
11 March 2008
To finally stop the misconception, Oriental Evening – one of the most popular events in the School calendar - is not just about the wonderful food, there is much, much more to it.The evening started with a Fashion Show organised by Harry Wong, our U5th fashion magazine publisher from Hong Kong. The show featured various student models who before Christmas had faced a tough selection process, to be able to strut their stuff on the night.
Three dresses featured in the show were made by Harry himself; one worn by Emily Kemp was short, strappy and sparkly and the sensation of the evening. Clearly the new McQueen, Harry was even involved in the make-up for the models and personally choreographed the show.
There was music throughout the evening provided by various bands and ranging from classics to pop. All musicians playing during the evening were oriental students as were the vocalists. Amazing was Noel and Boris’ High School Musical and Rebecca Chen’s keyboard skills.
The food is of course a highlight and on the menu this year was spare ribs, sushi, duck with pancakes, Japanese fried chicken, hot Chinese-style lettuce, Beijing beef and mushroom and special fried rice, not forgetting the fortune cookies.
A brilliant evening.
