It's all White for St Bede's
06 June 2008
The pressure was on for the St Bede’s swimmers knowing that the Hatfield UK Challenge was the last major meet of the season for the senior squad before the National Championships. Anthony White (age 16) had already come close this season to achieving his first ever National Qualifying Time (NQT) but would it elude him again?
Anthony rose to the occasion, swimming superbly to take not one but two NQTs for 200m Free (1.57.93) and 400m Free (4.09.01) also winning the bronze medal.
Stephanie Ketley (15) was also firing on all cylinders as she added another 3 NQTs to her growing collection for 100m Free (1.00.07), 200m Free (Silver medal 2.06.78) and 400m Free (Gold medal 4.25.37).
Michael Faber (16) was not taking things easy as he lowered his times further taking the Gold medals for 400m Free (4.07.73), 200m Free (1.56.16) and silver for the 100m Free (54.14) all inside NQT. He also came within 0.2 seconds of another NQT for his 100m Back (1.00.81).
Cristina Richards (12) took silver medal for the 200m IM in 2.35.73 and bronze for the 200m Breast in 2.57.68.
All the swimmers were making personal best times and these included Mary Carless (13), Andrew Horsfall-Turner (13), Katherine Horsfall-Turner (10), Sean Kayes (16) and Thomas Lamb (16).
Asked to comment on his squad’s performance, Head Coach Kevin Ayers said “it was simply an awesome weekend. Four St Bede’s swimmers have made it through to the National Championships and they have qualified for more events than ever before.”
