Personal bests at South East Regional Championships
06 June 2008
The St Bede’s swimmers were in action at the South East Regional Championships last weekend which took place at the Aldershot Long Course (50m) pool. With all the top swimmers attending from across the region and with the thoughts of National Qualifying times to achieve, the pressure was really on. Struggling for form in the early part of the season, Harriet Lambourne (age 15) had shown glimmers of her best in the last few weeks and this time she rose to the occasion, showing her class as she won the Gold medal in the 200m Butterfly in a National Qualifying Time (NQT) of 2.23.69. She then took silver in the 100m Butterfly in 1.06.97 which was another NQT.Stephanie Ketley (15) took Bronze in the 800m Freestyle in a time of 9.29.44 for her first NQT of the season.
Michael Faber (16) won Gold in the 200m Freestyle in a time of 2.00.18 (NQT). He lowered this mark still further when he later swum a truly superb 1st leg in the 4 x 200m relay in a time of 1.58.90. Faber then took silver in the 400m Freestyle in 4.15.34 (NQT) and 4th place in the 800m Freestyle in 8.49.76 (NQT). His tally of qualifying events for the National Championships now stands at 6 and he also has 3 qualifying times for the National Open Championships in July.
Anthony White (16) swimming in the 800m Freestyle took 5th place missing a NQT by an agonisingly close one second!
Alex Jameson (16) took silver in the 50m Freestyle (25.59) and 50m Butterfly (27.25).
Nick Ayers (17) and Sean Kayes (17) swimming in the older age group of 17 + both took personal best times.
Head Coach Kevin Ayers was delighted with the performance of his squad; “everyone achieved personal best times and to come away with medals at this level is a great achievement. We now have some hard work ahead as we concentrate on the build up to the National Championships in July and August.”
