New music centre
09 September 2008
Not quite singing in the rain, Andrew Barclay, Director of Music at St Bede’s Senior School spent a nail biting day last week watching six upright pianos and a grand piano being hoisted more than 30 feet in the pouring rain into the School’s new music centre. The new music centre is housed on the two upper floors of Crossways House, the home of colourful Victorian MP Horatio Bottomley whose old bedroom has been transformed into a recital room overlooking the School’s lake.
The two floors of Crossways House retain much of their original panelling and ornate carved ceilings and are now home to a music technology centre, two recording studios, five practice rooms and five classrooms.
Andrew Barclay commented: ‘The rain was torrential all day. We had to completely remove a window on the second floor for the grand piano to go through and fortunately around 4pm there was about 10 minutes when it did not rain and we were able to hoist the grand up’.
'The new music centre is stunning with fantastic equipment for the students to work with and stunning views looking over St Bede’s Park'.
