Activities Manager

Reporting to:
Centre Director

Qualifications:

Although no specific qualifications are necessary for the role of Activities Manager, we are looking for someone who has extensive knowledge of a wide range of sports and activities as well as a good knowledge of the Health and Safety issues involved with them. The Activities Manager needs to be creative in order to ensure that we have the widest possible choice of sports and activities available to our students. He or she will also need to be able to use their initiative as the Activities Programme can easily change due to inclement weather for example.

Salary:
The salary for this position starts at £500 per week

Working Day:

The Activities Manager assumes overall responsibility for the smooth running of the Activities Programme which includes the activities sessions in the afternoon, entertainment sessions in the evening, Sports Academy which takes place during the activities sessions and also the twice weekly excursions. Clearly this involves a great deal of planning and preparation to ensure that the programme is successful. It may also mean changing plans at the last minute and therefore it is important to always have a back-up plan just in case. Your first duty of the day will be to lead a short meeting in the morning before Activities Staff start preparing for the activities and entertainment, giving them guidance on what to prepare for and also discussing feedback on the previous day’s programme.

In the mornings, as well as completing the necessary paperwork and planning for the excursions, you will be overseeing the preparation of the afternoon’s activities and the evening’s entertainments. In conjunction with the Senior Activities Staff, you will ensure that that activities and entertainments are being prepared to acceptably high standards, that session plans are being completed and that they are authorised before the session goes ahead.

During the afternoons, in conjunction with the Senior Activities Staff, it is important that checks are made to ensure that all activities are being carried out to the high standards expected at St Bede’s. In the afternoon, observations of staff leading sessions can be conducted and a time arranged to give them constructive feedback. In the evenings, you will be responsible for ensuring that the evening entertainment runs smoothly.

Although the majority of the Activities Programme is pre-booked prior to the start of summer
school by Head Office, part of your job will involve liaising with excursion venues, checking that enough spaces have been booked and finalising details for your visit. Similarly with Sports Academy, you will liaise with the coaches as to how many students will be attending and on what days.
