Senior Activities Staff
Reporting to:
Activities Manager
Age:
Must be a minimum of 18 years old
Salary:
The salary for this position starts at £400 per week
Working Day:
The first duty of the day is attendance at the Activities Staff meeting at the beginning of the day. On occasions when the Activities Manager is off, you will be expected to lead this meeting. This meeting should finalise plans for the day so that all staff are aware of what activities will take place, where and when and also who is responsible for preparing for particular activities.
While the Activities Staff are preparing for the afternoon activities and evening entertainment, you will be ensuring that directions given by the Activities Manager are being carried out and also checking to make sure that session plans are being completed. This time of day will require a lot of input particularly for new and inexperienced staff. At this time, you will be expected to guide and support Activities Staff and at the same time ensure that activities are being prepared to sufficiently high standards.
Before the afternoon sessions, you will lead the Afternoon Activities Briefing which informs students of the activities taking place that afternoon and also lets them know which group they will be in. During the afternoon sessions you will be leading and assisting in a wide range of activities, some of which may be off-site. There must also be, in conjunction with the Activities Manager, an opportunity to visit all of the activities in their various locations to ensure that all activities are being carried out to acceptably high standards.
Before the evening session, you will lead the Evening Activities Briefing which informs students of the entertainment which is taking place that evening. During the evening sessions you will be leading and assisting in the entertainment programme. On Wednesdays and Sundays when students go on their excursions, you will play the key role of trip leader. You will be responsible for maintaining contact with the Activities Manager back at the centre and also all of the groups on the trip. Working closely with the Activities Manager, you will need to organise drop off and pick up points and also an itinerary for the day. On the day itself, you will not usually have a group of students, but will instead be ‘floating’ in the venue, ready to provide assistance if needed.
Main Duties:
- Ensuring that the directions given by the Activities Manager are being carried out to a sufficiently high standard by members of staff
- Motivating staff involved in activities to be positive and enthusiastic about the activities
- Ensuring the preparation room is left in a tidy state

- Leading sessions to acceptably high standards as assessed by the Activities Manager/Centre Director
- Following the timetabled Activities Programme as directed by the Activities Manager and being adequately prepared for the sessions for which you are responsible
- Assisting the Activities Manager with the observation of Activities Staff leading sessions at least twice during the course
