Working Day:
The first duty of the day is attendance at the daily teachers’ meeting which you may be asked to lead on some days and on other days, you will be assisting the Academic Manager with the meeting. Twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays), the meeting is an input session - a chance to present ideas to the teachers or the opportunity to deal with specific challenges teachers are faced with when dealing with young learners. Input sessions can also be a time for teachers to share what has worked particularly well in their classes and to exchange ideas.
Whilst the teachers are in class, it is your duty to make sure that everyone is in class and that classes are not in need of anything. During this time, observations can be done and paperwork such as weekly reports and leavers’ certificates can be prepared. On Mondays you will assist the Academic Manager with placement testing and allocating students to classes. You will be responsible for the Project Lessons, ensuring that teachers have the necessary supplies to go ahead with the project their class has chosen. You will also be responsible for distributing, collecting and collating the First Impressions questionnaire (a random sample of 25% of new arrivals each week) as well as the Leavers’ questionnaire.
You may also have to teach classes up to 15 hours per week at (Eastbourne and Vinehall) and 20 hours per week at (Dicker and Lancing). This would to cover when teachers have been guaranteed an additional day off or in order to allow a teacher to do some peer observations or when there is a shortage of teachers.
During the afternoon when teachers are preparing is the time which will require most input from the Senior Teacher and Academic Manager. You will be overseeing these slots and helping teachers with their preparation for the following day.
